Senator Gbemisola Ruqayyah Saraki, Minister of state for Transportation on Thursday commissioned the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) multi purpose outreach learning centre in Kano
The Outreach centre located at Dawakin Kudu outskirt of Kano metropolis was designed to serve the entire seven states in the north west.
Saraki in a speech at the ceremony tasked governors of the host states to exploit the potentiality and opportunity at the centre to train their youth on self empowerment to check insecurity.
She said transport is evidently pivotal for the nation’s economic growth, as she stressed the centre was sited in Kano to boost its status as economic hub of northern Nigeria.
Senator Saraki said since “Transportation is the catalyst for economic and social development, it is expected that those manning the transport system should be properly trained to effectively meet the mobility needs of the travelling public.”
She revealed that the Kano centre, as well as other centres across the federation are equipped with state of the art facilities to enhance both theoretical and practical training in all modes of transportation.
Saraki further disclosed that the Kano centre like its counterparts across the country would offer a wide range of courses leading to the award of Advanced Professional Diploma, professional Diploma as well as Certificate in Transport and Logistics.
Additionally, the institute would offer skill acquisition programs in Auto mechatronics, Auto Electrical, Automotive Mechatronics, Auto body work .
Other skills programme available at the centre include Wheel balancing and Alignment, Vulcanizing, Welding and others.
