The newly appointed Mandate Secretary of the FCT Social Development Secretariat, Ibrahim Aminu, couldn’t hide his disappointment with the state of decay of facilities under the Secretariat as he embarked on a five-week tour of facilities.
Kick-starting the tour on Monday with visits to key departments and facilities under the supervision of the Secretariat such as the FCT Social Safety Net office, Mini Theartre Area 1, Food Court site Area 1, Youth Support Centre Nyanya, the FCT Exhibition Pavilion and the FCT sport Complex, Area 10, the visibly disappointed Secretary declined interview request from journalists due to his mood.
Aminu instructed heads of the various departments to immediately submit reports on the state of the facilities under their care for him to forward to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
While being conducted around the Area 10 Sport Complex, Aminu couldn’t help but laugh at the state of the store room and the existing gymnasium as he made mockery of the Director of Sport, Lukas Istifanus.
He equally acknowledged the enormous tasks ahead of him while being shown around facilities at the abandoned FCT Sport Complex Area at 3, noting that he would need to get the report on the poor state of the facilities to the minister as soon as possible in order to fashion out modalities to put them to use.
Aminu who was however impressed with the quality of products made by the trainees of the tailoring department at the Youth Support Centre, Nyanya, wondered why nothing was being done to encourage the centre through patronage of their products.
He particularly queried the FCT Director of Sports Development, Lukas Istifanus on why his department prefers to contract the purchase of sport jerseys outside when the Centre could actually produce quality sports wears.
The tour of facilities which is expected to go round the six Area Councils of the territory will end in Monday the 16th of October 2023.
