The Falcons on Monday crashed out of the race to pick the sole Olympic ticket for Africa to Ivory Coast women national team after a 1-1 aggregate draw.
The Ivorians qualified on goal aggregate after a 0-0 draw in Abidjan last Thursday.
To some football enthusiasts, the Falcons failure to secure the ticket is more of administrative and technical faults in the portfolio of the Nigeria Football Federation; the government regulator.
They argued that how NFF handled the coaching situation that led to the untimely ‘resignation’ of Thomas Dennerby as Super Falcons Coach was not tactical and invariably affected the psychology of the female footballers and their performances on the pitch.
They described the appointment of Christopher Danjuma as a replacement as “inept”.
On resuming duty, Danjuma named Asisat Oshoala as new captain to replace Desire Oparanozie, the latter was not even invited to the national team.
Some of the players could not understand why the demand for their allowance could cause a misfortune for Oparanozie in the team.
“The poor handling of the Super Falcons coaching situation cannot be overruled”, said a Nigerian women football analyst with the twitter handle @realfutbolfan on Monday.
For Modo Victor, a passionate follower of Nigeria football, this time around the Nigeria Football Federation is culpable, demanding a ‘sensible’ explanation on why a system that is churning out result is altered by bringing on Danjuma?
“Now is the time to drag NFF over the coaching situation that ultimately culminated in Super Falcons ouster from Tokyo 2020 qualification. A system is in place, Dennerby is churning out results and then from nowhere danjuma leads us here,” Victor wrote on @modovictorekene
He reiterated that, “NFF failed on basic things and Dennerby walked out because there is no no head way is in sight and we just kept quiet praying the team does well but our ineptitude found us.”
Meanwhile, the minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare has said the Super Falcons failure to progress in their quest to pick the 2020 Olympic ticket has offered an opportunity for the ministry to dig deep in what led to the ouster.
The minister, however, saluted the players and the technical crew but insisted that the ministry will probe what led to the failure of the nine-time African champions.
Super Falcons have failed to qualified for the three consecutive Olympic Games, in 2012, 2016 and 2020. A team that have never failed in picking world cup ticket.
Recall that the minister took steps in resolving the untimely ‘resignation’ of Thomas Dennerby but the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, went ahead to name Christopher Danjuma as Super Falcons interim coach.
