Bandits Kill Another One, Abduct Several in Katsina Community

Armed bandits have killed one person and abducted several others in Unguwar Isiyaka, Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Residents said the bandits invaded the community at night, firing shots into the air before killing one resident and abducting an unspecified number of people.

A resident told Verity News that the attackers stormed the village while people were indoors. “We were in our rooms when the bandits raided the village. They started firing into the air and, in the process, killed one person and abducted many of our people,” the resident said.

The residents lamented that they had previously fled their homes due to repeated attacks but returned following a peace accord between the government and armed bandits. They said the latest incident suggests that the agreement may no longer be holding.

“We had earlier left our houses, but we returned to our village after the peace accord. Now, despite the negotiations, they have again killed and abducted our people,” another resident said.

The attack came shortly after armed bandits ambushed Mobile Police (MOPOL) officers in Bakori Local Government Area of the state, killing three officers and injuring others.

Residents across several communities in Katsina State say attacks by armed bandits have continued unabated, raising questions about the effectiveness of the peace agreements reached with the armed groups.
