Nigeria’s Power Grid Fails Again, Second Collapse in Five Days
Nigeria’s national electricity grid collapsed again on Tuesday, triggering a nationwide blackout and raising fresh concerns over the stability of the country’s power infrastructure.
Figures from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) show that electricity generation fell to zero megawatts around 11:00 a.m., effectively cutting power supply to all 11 electricity distribution companies across the country.
The latest incident is the second grid failure recorded in 2026. The first occurred on Friday, January 24, just five days earlier.
As at the time of reporting, there was no official explanation from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) or the Ministry of Power on what caused the collapse or how quickly electricity supply would be restored.
Repeated grid failures have continued to disrupt businesses and households nationwide, adding to long-standing concerns about Nigeria’s fragile power system and the slow pace of sector reforms.
