The Kano State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahiru Hashim, has withdrawn his membership from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with immediate effect.
Dr. Hashim made his decision known in a resignation letter dated January 23, 2026, addressed to the chairman of the NNPP in Gobirawa Ward, Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.
In the letter, the commissioner said his decision was taken in good faith and guided by what he described as the overall best interest of Kano State. He explained that the move followed careful consideration and was consistent with the leadership direction and strategic focus of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, under whose administration he currently serves.
Dr. Hashim expressed appreciation to the NNPP for the opportunity to serve and for the support he received during his time in the party. He also thanked party leaders and members in Gobirawa Ward and beyond, noting that his engagement with the NNPP was characterised by cooperation and mutual respect.
His resignation comes shortly after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announced his own departure from the NNPP, further signalling a deepening political realignment in Kano State.
