At least six persons were killed while several others sustained injuries following an attack by armed bandits on Baidi village in Tangaza Local Government Area on January 22, 2026.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailants stormed the community late at night, firing indiscriminately at residents. The sudden assault threw the village into panic, leaving multiple casualties in its wake.
Residents who spoke to this newspaper said the attackers appeared intent on causing maximum harm. “Armed bandits invaded our village last night and started shooting without discrimination, as if they wanted to wipe out the entire community,” a resident recounted.
According to community sources, six people lost their lives during the attack, while an unspecified number of others were injured and are receiving treatment.
The victims were buried on Thursday in accordance with Islamic rites. Speaking during the burial, a resident lamented the recurring nature of the violence in the area. “We are burying six of our people killed by armed bandits. Sadly, this is not the first time we have had to bury loved ones due to these attacks. We pray that Allah grants the deceased eternal rest, heals the injured, and restores lasting peace to Tangaza Local Government and Sokoto State,” he said.
The incident underscores ongoing security challenges in parts of northwestern Nigeria, as residents continue to call for decisive interventions to curb armed banditry and protect rural communities.
