‘They Served me Love Letter’ – Fubara Mocks Rivers Assembly

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed the impeachment notice issued against him by the Rivers State House of Assembly, describing it as nothing more than a “love letter.”

The Assembly had recently served impeachment notices on the governor and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, over allegations of gross misconduct linked to the administration. This move came despite an interim order from a Rivers State High Court directing lawmakers to halt the impeachment process. Lawmakers later insisted that the state’s Chief Judge had received and acknowledged the notice.

Speaking on Friday while addressing supporters at the closing ceremony of the week-long 2026 NPA Port Harcourt International Polo Tournament, Fubara played down the development. He said the impeachment move would not distract him from his duties.

The governor noted that he had expected the new year to begin on a positive note but was instead met with political tension. Still, he stressed that his government remains focused on its responsibilities.

“I thought 2026 would be the finest year, but they just delivered a love letter,” he said. “That notwithstanding, we must continue to do our work as a government and keep supporting everyone who genuinely means well for Rivers State.”

Fubara’s remarks come amid an ongoing standoff between the executive and the legislature, which has continued to draw reactions from political actors within and outside the state.
