Bello Turji’s Ultimatum Forces Mass Displacement in Sokoto Community

Thousands of residents of Tidibale community in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State have been forced to flee their homes following an ultimatum reportedly issued by a notorious armed bandit leader, Bello Turji.

Residents began a mass exodus after the expiration of the deadline allegedly set by the bandit kingpin, amid fears of violent reprisals should they remain in the community. Community sources said the ultimatum created widespread panic, compelling families to abandon their homes and livelihoods.

Neighbouring villages have also been affected by the development. Residents of Mansalo, Gidan Rana, Jimbama, Chochi, Kwannawa and Yarkurori communities were said to have vacated their villages in anticipation of possible attacks linked to the ultimatum.

“We were given a deadline by Bello Turji to leave our communities. Now that the ultimatum has elapsed, we had no option but to flee our homes out of fear of what may happen to us,” some of the displaced residents lamented.

Confirming the incident, the Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, said the state government was aware of the threat issued to the affected communities and had taken immediate steps to protect lives.

“Yes, the terrorists have issued an order to these communities and are planning attacks on Tidibale. That is why we have temporarily relocated the residents to the headquarters of Isa Local Government Area,” the governor said while addressing journalists.

The state government assured residents that security agencies had been alerted and that efforts were ongoing to stabilize the area and facilitate the safe return of displaced persons when conditions permit.
