FACT-CHECK: Sheikh Gumi Has Not Deleted His Social Media Posts That Are Critical of The US

Claims that Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi deleted all his social media posts critical of the United States and its president are false, VERITY NEWS can report.

Sheikh Gumi, known for his outspoken criticism of U.S. policies toward Nigeria, particularly after the country was labeled a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged persecution of Christians, has continued to post content critical of the United States. He also criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump following reported threats linked to U.S. military actions abroad.

After U.S. airstrikes in Sokoto targeting suspected Lakurawa terrorists, Sheikh Gumi wrote:

“Nigeria’s sovereignty is a red line for all; it’s our collective religious and national responsibility to protect it by all means.”

On December 29, prior to reports of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s capture, he posted:

International bandits are seen surrounding Venezuela, killing boat riders, and kidnapping oil tankers. More dangerously they are refusing negotiations. Pray for the nation.”

Other posts critical of the United States, including statements on Venezuela and international interference, remain publicly visible on Sheikh Gumi’s verified Facebook page. The cleric never stated that he had deleted any content.

Verdict: False. Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has not deleted his posts critical of the United States or its president.
