The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed an early morning bomb explosion at the General Hospital in Bagudo Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir, disclosed this in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to the statement, the explosion occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, December 30.
“We want to assure all residents that the security situation is fully under control following a loud explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo, in the early hours of Tuesday,” the spokesman said.
He explained that a joint security team comprising the police, military, and vigilante operatives swiftly cordoned off and secured the area, while specialised Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) teams were deployed to assess the scene.
The police confirmed that no casualties were recorded in the incident.
“Although a building within the staff quarters was damaged, the occupants had already evacuated safely,” the statement added.
SP Bashir further stated that the Commissioner of Police in the state had reinforced the area with additional tactical units to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.
He added that a comprehensive investigation had commenced to determine the cause of the explosion.
“The Command urges members of the public to remain calm and avoid the immediate vicinity to allow security and investigative operations to continue unhindered. Further updates will be communicated as necessary,” the spokesman said.
