A Prominent African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain and convener of the ADC National Alliance for Good Governance, Honourable Abdullahi Umar, has lambasted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for what he describes as a blatant disregard for Nigeria’s constitution and citizens intelligence through inconsistent tax reform policies.
Speaking to journalists in Kaduna, today, Hon. Umar accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government of duplicity in handling the recently passed Tax Reform Bills. “President Tinubu is playing a dangerous game of abracadabra with our taxes, presenting one version of the bill to the National Assembly and another to the public. This double standard is an insult to every Nigerian who trusted him with their votes,” Umar declared. “The APC is taking us for granted, flipping policies like a magician’s trick while families struggle with rising costs.”
Umar’s critique echoes concerns raised on the floor of the House of Representatives by PDP lawmaker Hon. Abdulsamad Dasuki from Sokoto, who highlighted discrepancies in the bills’ provisions during plenary sessions last week. Dasuki pointed to vague clauses on VAT exemptions that appeared altered post-passage, fueling suspicions of executive overreach.
The ADC leader cited other glaring examples of policy flip-flops under Tinubu’s watch. He referenced the incessant borrowing, despite the abrupt reversal on fuel subsidy removal implementation, initially promised as a one-off shock but dragging on with no clear relief, and the contradictory signals on naira floating—hailed as economic genius one day, then quietly tweaked amid public outcry. “These aren’t reforms; they’re retreats masked as progress. Nigerians deserve transparency, not parlor tricks,” Umar added.
As a respected figure in Kano’s political circles, Hon. Umar has long championed ethical governance through his ADC platform. His forthright interventions have earned praise for bridging partisan divides, advocating for the masses, and holding power to account without fear. Under his leadership, the ADC National Alliance has mobilized youth and civil society against corruption, positioning Umar as a beacon of integrity in Nigeria’s turbulent political landscape.
As debates rage ahead of 2027 elections, Umar called for unity against fiscal deceit. And called on other opposition figures t to join ranks to end the scourge called APC.”Let’s demand real reforms that uplift, not exploit,” he urged.
