COP30: Niger Govt Targets Global Partners for Green Projects

The Niger State Government will unveil a bold, investment-driven green development roadmap at the ongoing COP30 Climate Conference in Belém, Brazil.

This is according to a statement issued by the Director-General of the Niger State Agency for Green Initiatives (NG-SAGI), Dr. Habila Daniel Galadima. He said the state’s participation marks a decisive step toward securing global partnerships for climate-smart agriculture, renewable energy expansion, carbon markets and green industrialisation.

Dr. Galadima explained that Niger State’s delegation, led by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, is in Brazil to present the state’s “Green Economy Blueprint” — the foundational policy driving Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s climate and economic reforms. He said the Blueprint will be showcased as a model for how African subnational governments can transform climate threats into economic opportunities. He said Niger State will use COP30 to deepen engagements on its flagship one-billion-tree afforestation programme with Blue Carbon UAE, its technical carbon-market collaboration with FutureCamp Germany, and renewable-energy partnerships being advanced through NNPC Ltd.

These initiatives, he stressed, have the potential to unlock more than ₦1 trillion in climate-linked investments and create thousands of green jobs. The statement noted that Niger State will also present investment opportunities under its Green Industrial Park, a project anchored on the AKK Gas Pipeline and the Gurara Waterfall’s renewable-energy potential.

Dr. Galadima said the state is inviting global partners to explore ventures in carbon farming, agro-forestry, reforestation, solar energy, biochar production, clean cooking technologies and climate-smart agricultural clusters. According to the NG-SAGI Director-General, Niger’s CO30 agenda includes an aggressive push for youth-centred agricultural transformation. He highlighted that more than a thousand young farmers have already benefited from the Niger State Agricultural Development Fund and that COP30 offers a platform to scale these opportunities with international backing, particularly in methane mitigation, soil carbon initiatives and sustainable land restoration. Dr. Galadima added that eco-tourism, waste-to-wealth systems and green mobility (including CNG-powered transport reforms) will also form part of Niger’s pitch in Brazil.

He emphasized that these initiatives reflect the state’s commitment to a circular economy where environmental sustainability becomes a catalyst for industrial competitiveness, job creation and community resilience.

He reaffirmed that Niger State is in Brazil not merely to attend COP30 but to secure collaborations that will speed up the state’s transition into a leading green-economy hub in West Africa. “We came to COP30 with a compelling story and a clear strategy,” he said. “Niger State is ready for investment, ready for innovation and ready to demonstrate that climate action, when rooted in local vision and global partnership, can transform millions of lives.”
