The Kogi State Government has commenced a large-scale empowerment programme for 2,310 youths in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion techniques.
The programme was officially disclosed on Friday in Lokoja by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, who explained that participants were drawn from all 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
Training centres have been strategically established in Lokoja, Okene, Idah, and Kabba to ensure wide accessibility.
Mr. Fanwo noted that the initiative is being executed in partnership with tech-energy firm, Sufpay Ltd., and forms part of the state’s broader strategy to equip young people with in-demand technical skills for Nigeria’s emerging green economy.
“This is about much more than skills, we are laying the groundwork for a generation that is technically empowered and ready to engage with modern energy systems.”
He added that, as CNG adoption grows across the country, the state is positioning its youth to play a leading role in the clean energy transition.
Fanwo further stated that the programme also aims to reduce vulnerability to crime by engaging young people in productive training, thereby enhancing security and promoting self-reliance.
He commended Sufpay Ltd. for its technical support and commitment, reaffirming the state government’s belief that youth are Kogi’s most valuable asset.
“When we invest in our youth, we are investing in the sustainable future of Kogi,”.
