Calabar tragedy: Police Inspector dies moments after Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Real Madrid

A tragic incident occurred in Calabar on Tuesday evening when a police inspector, Stephen Enang, reportedly collapsed and died shortly after watching Arsenal’s emphatic 3-0 win over Real Madrid.

Inspector Enang, who hailed from Ekori in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, was serving at the Akim Police Division along IBB Way in Calabar. Eyewitnesses said he was in high spirits while watching the Champions League match at a popular viewing centre on Abang-Asang Street.

According to a close friend who was present, Enang was an enthusiastic Arsenal supporter and cheered passionately throughout the game.

“We were watching the match at a viewing centre on Abang-Asang Street. He was in great spirits healthy, happy, cheering every goal. Arsenal scored the first, second, and third goals, and he was overjoyed.

“He jumped up in excitement multiple times. But after the final whistle, when everyone started leaving, we noticed Stephen wasn’t getting up like the rest of us. That’s when we realized something was wrong.” the friend recalled.

The inspector reportedly slumped in his seat and was unresponsive. He was immediately taken to the Police Hospital in Akim, where efforts to revive him failed, and he was pronounced dead.

Described as a gentle and football-loving officer, Enang’s sudden death has left friends and colleagues in shock.

“He was soft-spoken, football-loving, and an ardent Arsenal supporter. This came as a huge shock to all of us,” his friend added.
