Pan Arewa group, Arewa Social Contract Initiatives, on Sunday enjoined the dethroned Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, to vacate the ancient city in the interest of peace and stability.
This plea came after an emergency meeting of the 19 Northern States in Kano, where concerns were raised about the potential for civil unrest following the Emir’s sudden return to the city.
National Chairman Sani Muhamud Darma emphasized that Aminu Ado Bayero’s actions contradicted the traditions of the Emirate Council and may ignite chaos, harming many lives.
He reminded the dethroned Emir that history will not be kind to him, if he prioritized personal interests over the well-being of the state.
The Chairman drew parallels with the peaceful transition of power by other Emirs, including the Emir of Bichi, Nasiru Ado Bayero, and urged Aminu Ado Bayero to follow suit.
He stressed that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s campaign promises included reforming the Kano Emirates, which has been fulfilled, and that Kano residents are content with the developments.
The Arewa Social Contract Initiatives strongly advised the dethroned Emir to relocate and channel any grievances appropriately, rather than jeopardizing the peace and stability of Kano.
They emphasized that the city’s volatility demands responsible actions, and that Emir Sanusi’s acceptance by the people is evident in the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in Kano.
In the meantime, aggrieved residents suspected to be loyal to the old order staged a violent protest
against the dissolution of five emirates created by the former governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
The protesters had camped within the vicinity of a heavily fortified mausoleum where Aminu Bayero is holding court, performed special prayers and proceeded to the State Road.
They made burn fire on the streets close to a giant billboard of President Tinubu, and Governor Yusuf while chanting war songs.
Reports from Gaya also had it that anti-Sanusi II elements staged a peaceful protest over the dissolution of the Emirate by Governor Abba Yusuf.
The protester were reported to have performed a 2-unit special prayers for peace in the town and also carried placards expressing their disappointment with the decision of the state government to abolish the emirate.
