Nigerian Judicial Commission sacks judge over N50,000 bribe

Justice Safiyanu Muhammad Dabi of the Upper Shari’a Court, Birnin Kudu has been sacked by the Jigawa State Judicial Service Commission.

Justice Safiyanu was accused of collecting a bribe of Fifty Thousand Naira (50,000) from a litigant.

The Director of Publicity and Protocol Matters, State Judiciary, Abbas Rufa’i Wangara, made this known in a release on Saturday, noting that the judge collected the sum of N50,000 as a bribe when the litigant appeared before him when he was at Upper Shari’a Court, Birnin Kudu.

According to the statement, following extensive deliberations by the Judicial Service Commission during its 170th meeting, the Commission collectively resolved to compulsorily retire the judge.

“The Commission, however, warned staff in the judicial arm to shun all forms of corruption and bribery in the state.
“The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to dealing with any staff found wanting in the discharge of their official assignment,” the statement added.
