Buhari orders for suspension of blanket visa ban by Arab Emirate

President Muhammadu Buhari has called for lifting the blanket visa ban on Nigerians by the Government of the United Arab Emirates, UAE.

In a statement by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President, on Tuesday, Buhari made this call on Monday during a telephone conversation with the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The President requested his UAE counterpart to review the blanket visa ban placed on Nigerians intending to travel to the UAE.

Buhari assured the UAE of his commitment to guaranteeing seamless relationships between countries.

In the wake of 2022, Emirates Airlines suspended its operations in Nigeria over its inability to repatriate funds trapped in Nigeria.

Blanket visa is a temporary work permit that allows the holder to secure temporary employment. It can only be used to facilitate a corporate transfer of an employee from a foreign location.
