The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday evening arrested former Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano.
Obiano was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
Obiano, who was governor of Anambra state for eight years, was arrested on March 17, same day he handed over to Prof. Charles Soludo.
Details have been provided by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission why it arrested the immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano.
Recall that hours after Obiano’s wife, Ebelechukwu was spotted at the airport, news of the former Anambra Governor’s arrest after he handed over to Charles Soludo, made headlines.
Speaking with BBC Pidgin, the Public Relations Officer of the commission, Wilson Uwajaren confirmed the arrest.
Uwajuren said Obiano has been on the watchlist of the EFCC prior to the transition on Thursday March 17.
He said;
“Obiano has been on our watchlist for sometime now. He had immunity as a governor and that is why we could not arrest him before now.
“Today he lost the immunity and was traveling out of the country before we finally arrested him”.
