A community based organization, Funtua Consultative Forum, Sunday held an electoral exercise to elect new Executive Officers.

The election was preceded by manifesto presentations, where candidates spoke on their plans of action, as applicable to the various offices they sought to fill.

Members were given opportunities to ask candidates questions for competence assessment. The polls began at exactly 12:15pm, with ten offices to be filled. Whereas the office of Assistant Secretary General was contested by two aspirants, Sani Salimu and Dalhatu Abubakar, other offices were returned unopposed.

At the end of the voting exercise, results were sorted and counted. Dr Zaharaddeen Idris, Ibrahim Sa’idu, and Ahmad Yakubu Maidoki were declared and returned as the Chairman, Vice Chairman and the Secretary General, respectively.

Other persons so returned were Sirajo Salisu Abubakar as Financial Secretary; Mahmud Ibrahim Bako as Treasurer; Muhammad Mustapha as Auditor; and Hayatuddeen Ibrahim Isa as Social Welfare Officer, while Al-Amin Usman, Shehu Abdullahi and Dalhat Abubakar were returned as Public Relations Officer, Chief Whip and Assistant Secretary General respectively.

Chairman of the Forum’s Independent Electoral Committee (IEC), Sani Salisu Salga, lauded the exercise as peaceful and hitch-free. Mr Salga also added that his leadership of the Committee had introduced for the first time manifesto presentations and voting by proxy, which he called commendable initiatives. Chairman of the electoral umpire thanked God for the successful conduct of the polls, despite the challenges posed by shortage of time to prepare.
