Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Onyeabo Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd), has disclosed that he joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) to render more services to the country after retirement from service in 2014.
He stated this yesterday at his country home in Ovim, Isuikwuato Council of Abia State, adding that he joined the APC to make himself available for more service and that he was ready to make sacrifices in accordance with party provisions.
Ihejirika, who took to agriculture after retirement, urged Nigerians, especially the youths to be enterprising, stressing that Nigerians should not expect the challenges of the country to disappear overnight.
He pointed out that the year 2022 would come with more challenges as political activities heighten towards the 2023 elections.
“Aspirants and candidates for elective political offices will emerge, but Abia requires qualified persons with the capacity to provide visionary leadership and reposition the state as one of the country’s commercial hubs after Lagos,” he said.
On agitations in the polity, Ihejirika sued for peaceful agitations that would make the authorities and the citizens listen to the grievances from different parts of the country, saying that he would continue to sue for peaceful agitations, as peace and progress should be the ultimate target of Nigerians.
Meanwhile, Ebonyi State chapter of APC has backed the presidential bid of Governor Dave Umah said that his six years of performance in office will earn him victory in his bid to govern the country in 2023.
In a statement issued in Abakaliki, yesterday, state Chairman of the party, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, said Umahi’s decision to contest the 2023 presidential election was commendable and assured him of the party’s support.
Okoro, who is also the Special Security Consultant to the state government, maintained that Umahi’s aspiration to run for the presidency was a bold step and expressed confidence that his presidency would bring massive infrastructure development and economic prosperity to the country and the citizens considering his performance and achievements as Ebonyi governor.
