Breaking: 3 Dowen College students arrested over Oromoni’s death

A new chapter has opened in the case of Sylvester Oromoni Jnr. the Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos secondary school student, who died as a result of alleged torture by fellow students, believed to be cult members.

Reports indicate that the Lagos police command on Tuesday arrested three of the students involved in the incident, where the deceased sustained injuries that led to his death after being brutally battered by five of his seniors.

Outrage had followed the development, in which the school authorities had earlier dismissed as a case of accident, explaining that Oromoni, sustained the injuries, while playing football, an account which is now heavily contradicted.

Amid reports that some of the culprits had left the country, Lagos Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has confirmed that three out of the five students are already in custody, though it is not yet ascertained what happened to the other two.

It comes as human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, hired by the family of the deceased to seek justice in the case, has already fired a letter to the office of Lagos State’s Chief Coroner, requesting an inquest into the circumstances leading to the death of his client’s child.
