Surprise package! Visually impaired Para-athlete gets marriage proposal from guide in Tokyo

The 2020 Tokyo Paralympics served the world a memorable romantic scene on Thursday when T11 runner, Keula Nidreia Pereira Semedo, received a marriage proposal from her guide.

UK Metro reports that the visually impaired sprinter who narrowly missed out on semi-final qualification after she finished fourth in the women’s 200m left the track with a smile on her face.

Her guide, Manuel Antonio Vaz da Veiga, got down on one knee and asked for her hand in marriage at the end of the race.

“Manuel Antonio Vaz da Veiga, guide to Keula Nidreia Pereira Semedo, popped the question after the women’s T11 200m heats May the two of them run together for life,” a tweet on the Paralympics Games’ official handle read, alongside a clip of the beautiful moment.

Visually impaired runners run side by side with their guides and are attached together via a small running tether.

And the pair are clearly attached at the heart too as Semedo said ‘yes’ to her partner’s proposal surrounded by her fellow athletes and their guides.
