Kano singer, Ahmad Abdul, whose lyrics threatened the city’s fragile peace due to alleged blasphemous content on Friday openly apologised to the entire Muslim Umma, and Kano state government.
Ahmad Abdul who regained his freedom after he was taken out of public view by the DSS said
“I never knew my song was against Islamic teachings and could course uproar, I wouldn’t have done it.”
He stressed, “I have now undersood and accepted my mistakes and I hereby heartily apologise to Kano people, ullamas, government and the state censorship board”.
In a speech at the signing of the singer’s bail conditions at DSS headquarters, Kano, the Executive Secretary, Kano Censorship Board, Ismaila Na’aba Afakallah said he received hundreds of petitions against the controversial song shortly after it was released without clearance.
Na’aba Afakallah said “after realizing the gravity of the song against the position and beliefs of Kano people, ullamas and government, he reported the singer to DSS who swung into action and arrested him at a hotel where he was hidden.
The Executive Secretary added that several uncensored songs are being confiscated from youth groups who took to singing as a business in the commercial city.
Ahmad’s father, Alhaji Abdullahi Isa, commended the DSS for their timely response on the matter that helped forestall possible outbreak of law and order.
