Passion for Volleyball grassroots devt propelling me to do more, Tokyo Olympics exploits now my focus – Nimrod

Chairman caretaker committee, Nigerian Volleyball Federation, Engr. Musa Nimrod, has insisted that his attention is not on retaining the federation’s presidency but for Nigeria to qualify for Tokyo Olympics in beach volleyball. 

Addressing sports writers in Kaduna at the end of the 2021 President Beach Volleyball Cup, Nimrod said eight players including four males and four females have been selected to represent Nigeria in the Tokyo 2020 African qualifiers, adding that the selected players will from the championship head to camp for the qualifiers. 


“Its our desire for beach volleyball to go to Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the team will enter camp in the first week of June. We are going to have four female players team A and B, four male players team A and B. We are going for U-18 World Championship in Mexico and World U-19 Championship in Iran. We are starting Division 1 on Sunday here in Kaduna.

“I’m motivated by the passion I have for volleyball and other sports in Nigeria. We have not got any sponsorship, we have been working with the federal government but our desire is for sponsors to come and support what we are doing,” Nimrod said. 


Team Kaduna swept three of the four gold medals. 
The senior male team dethroned defending champions, Civil Defenders in a keenly contested 2-1 win, NIS was third. Customs won gold and bronze in the senior female category, after defeating Aso Queens 2-0. The winners went home with N120,000, trophy and a ball, runners-up, N90,000, trophy and a ball and third placed trophy, N60,000 and a ball. 


Team Kaduna won Kogi Spikers to win the male U-19, while Team Kaduna Queens defeated Kogi Emeralds to win the female category as Golden Spikers of Anambra was third. The winners went home with N100,000,  runners-up, N80,000 and third placed N50,000. The winners all won a trophy and a ball.
