Here is the preview of this weekend’s Premier League matches.
2020/21 English Premier League (Week 33): Liverpool v Newcastle United (12:30 pm), West Ham United v Chelsea (5:30 pm), Sheffield United v Brighton & Hove Albion (8 pm)
The contest for next season’s Champions League through the domestic league pits West Ham against visiting Chelsea in a London derby. Both teams are on same points but the Blues are fourth on account of superior goal difference.
Chelsea could only pick a point when they hosted Brighton on Tuesday, while West Ham lost 2-3 away to Newcastle.
For outgoing champions Liverpool, Champions League is still possible next season as they are only two points short of the cut. The Anfield team must beat Newcastle to boost their chances however.
Spanish LaLiga (Week 32): Elche CF v Levante (1 pm), Real Valladolid v Cádiz CF (3:15 pm), Valencia v Deportivo Alavés (5:30 pm), Real Madrid v Real Betis (8 pm)
Again Real Madrid are presented with the opportunity to go on top of the table as they play ahead of current leaders Atlético Madrid. If the Whites win, they will draw level on points with their city rivals and edge ahead on head-to-head rule.
2020/21 German Bundesliga (Week 31): VfL Wolfsburg v Borussia Dortmund, SC Freiburg v Hoffenheim, Union Berlin v Werder Bremen, Mainz 05 v Bayern München (all 2:30 pm); Bayer Leverkusen v Eintracht Frankfurt (5:30 pm), Schalke 04 v Hertha BSC (postponed)
Bayern will be crowned champions of Germany for the 30th time – and ninth in a row – if they beat Mainz. And they will then have two more matches to wrap up the season.
2020/21 Italian Serie A (Week 33): Genoa v Spezia (2 pm), Parma v Crotone (5 pm), Sassuolo v Sampdoria (7:45 pm)
Parma will send fellow struggling side Crotone to the lower division if they win at home. Parma are second from the base, five points better than Crotone.
2020/21 French Ligue 1 (Week 34): AS Saint-Étienne v Stade Brestois (Noon), FC Metz v Paris Saint Germaine (4 pm)
PSG have a crucial Champions League task hosting Manchester City in the first leg of the semifinal on Wednesday. But they have to first take care of the home front where they risk losing their title. If they are victorious at Metz, the Parisians will replace Lille at the top, even if temporarily.
