‘Murder’: Court remands 2 in Ondo

A Magistrate Court sitting in Oke-Igbo, in Ile Oluji /Okeigbo on Friday remanded two accused persons, Olaiya Tunde, 21 and Akinnuoye Festus, 24, to the Olokuta Correctional Center over the murder of one Pius Dada Omoniyi.

The two suspects were arraigned for allegedly killing Omoniyi in a bush after which they severed his head, removed his two arms and legs before disposing of his remains.

They were arraigned on two-count charges of murder and conspiracy which contravene Sections 316 and punishable under section 516 and 319(1) of the criminal code, cap 37, Vol. 1, laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The Police Prosecutor, Abdul Lateef Sule, informed the court that the accused committed the offence on August 14, 2020, at Awo road, in Oke-Igbo area of the state.

The Prosecutor, however, requested the court to order the case file transferred to the Director of Public Prosecution, (DPP) for legal advice and prayed the court to remand the suspects to the Correctional Center pending legal advice from the DPP.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs Oyedele Awe, ordered that the case file should be transferred to the DPP and adjourned the case to April 30, 2021, for mentioning.
