Breaking: Niger Lawmakers confirm appointment of new Chief Judge

The Niger state House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of a substantive Chief Judge of the state.

She is Justice Aisha Lami Bawa Bwari.

Justice Bawa Bwari was confirmed Chief Judge on Thursday after a unanimous decision of the assembly for her to take a bow.

In a motion, the Lawmaker representing Bosso constituency, Honourable Malik Madaki Bosso, said Justice Bawa Bwari has served the state meritoriously in various capacities, adding that she deserved the honour of the Assembly to be confirmed. 

However, in a brief debate on the curriculum vitae of the Chief Judge, the Lawmaker representing Suleja, Mallam Iya Suleja expressed confidence that Justice Bawa Bwari will improve on the administration of criminal justice in the state.

The lawmaker advised the Chief Judge to give priority to upgrading the decayed infrastructure of the judiciary, adding that, “I urge you to pay deserved attention towards improving the structures of courts in the state some of which have decayed.”

Speaking with Journalists at the assembly complex, the new Chief Judge promised to ensure enhanced development of the judiciary.

She said, “As the lawmakers have said, lots need to be done in the area of  administration of criminal justice. We will improve in the area while ensuring justice for all citizens.”
