Breaking: In Edo, Lawmakers impeach speaker three weeks after Obaseki’s reelection

The Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Frank Okiye has been impeached over alleged financial malfeasance and highhandedness.

Nine out of the 10 legislators signed his (Okiye) impeachment notice during Monday’s sitting.

The motion for Okiye’s impeachment was moved  by Hon. Henry Okhuarobo (Ikpoba-Okha) and seconded by Hon. Emmanuel Agbaje (Akoko-Edo 11) constituency.

The House thereafter elected Hon. Marcus Onobun, the member representing Esan West Constituency.

The Assembly had been embroiled in crisis after 10 out of 24- members were “secretly” inaugurated on June 17, 2019.

Governor Godwin Obeseki was reelected on September 9, 2020.
