Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo yesterday canvassed investigation of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) with a view to finding out those responsible for the registration of its splinter group.
This followed concerns the issue generated in the South East, as well as divisions the development triggered in the region.
The CAC had registered and withdrawn the certificate it issued a splinter group named Ohanaeze General Assembly.
The uproar created by the development had led to the commission’s withdrawal of the group’s certificate of registration, with the CAC saying it issued the certificate in error.
This was however, after backers of the new group had inaugurated their leadership and made its certificate public knowledge.
In a statement in Enugu, Ohanaeze Ndigbo stated that it was not enough for the commission to withdraw the certificate and urged relevant government agencies to unravel how the ‘fake group’ was registered in the first place.
Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Mazi Chuks Ibegbu, explained that the investigation would further unravel the motive of those behind the splinter group.
Explaining that the action amounted to ‘coup’ against the South East region, Ibegbu added, “CAC may have been doing this in the past, but there cannot be fire without smoke and therefore, we need to unmask the motive behind it. We need to know why they want to desecrate Igboland with Ohanaeze as the target.”
He admonished those behind the new group to apologise to Ndigbo, stressing that their action was aimed at embarrassing and creating disaffection in Igboland.
