Based on the UTME examination held in March this year, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and other stakeholders have unanimously agreed at 160 cut off mark for admission to universities in the 2020/2021 academic year.
Similarly, the entry score for polytechnics is put at 120 while that of colleges of education is 100. Innovative Enterprise Institute is put at 100.This was revealed at the first virtual molicy meeting of the board.
The Zoom policy meeting was joined by all VCs, rectors, provosts, civil society and the media and was chaired by Minister of State for Education, Dr Emeka Nwajiba.
JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede in his remarks emphasised the need for institutions to go through the Central Admission Processes (CAPS) in admission because of its autonomy, transparency and openness and being a market place for candidates.
Professor Oloyede said since many institutions settled for the cut off mark as indicated, JAMB had no option than to accept their suggestions.
He said going through an open process like CAPS has revealed that Nigeria needed international and special students while also emphasising the imperative of establishing more health science universities, as more and more candidates seek to read medicine.
The cut off marks were arrived at through the preponderance of suggestions by institutions in the online form they had earlier filled.
Besides the cut off marks, Professor Oloyede that that no institution must charge more than N2,000 for post-UTME examinations, adding that asking for fresh biometrics is tantamount to fraud.
