Enang assures Nigerians of adequate petrol products, says no need for panic buying

Sen. Ita Enang, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, has called on Nigerians to support Federal Government’s effort toward ensuring availability of petroleum products in the country.

Enang made the call when he featured on the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum on Thursday in Abuja.

“The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) and all agencies concerned are working hard and the pump price of PMS has been reduced to N123.50 per litre.

“The crude price is oscillating. They have assured us that they have enough quantity. Our challenge is that most of the countries that have been refining also have the challenge that the world is having.

“Even then, it is not advisable or economical to import. Let us agree that it is safe, but we need to increase our stock in case the other countries get more challenged, and in case our refineries cease to work.

“But they need to give confidence to Nigerians because if you do not give them confidence, they will start panic buying and those who are distributing will start hoarding, while Nigeria will suffer for nothing,’’ he said.

He urged Nigerians to support the petroleum ministry and the NNPC, adding that assurance by the corporation of adequate stock should be accepted by all.

He further urged the corporation to continue restocking, assuring that his office and the committee would continue to strengthen efforts on what the corporation was doing.

“We will be taking action, working with the legislature when the time is right, to ensure that Nigeria does not go down when there is need for extra products,” he said. (NAN)
