Bauchi traditional ruler dies of Lassa fever


A traditional ruler and district head of Toro in Bauchi state, Alhaji Adamu Toro has died of lassa fever which broke out in recent time in the state.


State governor Bala Mohammed disclosed that the epidemic killed the traditional ruler when he visited the headquarters of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control in Abuja to seek support for the control of the disease in the state.
According to a press statement by the special assistant to the governor on new media Lawal Muazu on Monday, the governor said he is working on accessing funding from relevant bodies to tackle the menace. 


“Because of the escalation of out break of Lassa fever in Bauchi State and the death of one of the district heads due to Lassa fever and the infection with the diseases by some of medical personnel, I decided to cut shot my official visit to Germany by coming to solicit the  support of the Federal Government through the DG National Center for Disease Control and ED National primary health Care Development Agency.” He qouted the governor as saying.

Muazu said in his response, the Director General of the centre Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu has promised the governor that they would establish a branch in Bauchi state to manage outbreak of diseases.


He implored the state government to provide land and the required manpower in order to actualize the project.
” Your Excellency, even before your visit to us today, you have our commitment, let’s work together so as to ensure effective service delivery.
” Human resources is one of the major challenges in the healthcare sector, I hope you will provide the required manpower. We will soon lay down our foundation in Bauchi state to manage outbreak of diseases.” He was qouted.
