Has Monguno incurred presidential wrath? Absent as Buhari meets service chiefs

The signs may be that Babagana Monguno has incurred presidential wrath as he was absent when President Muhammadu Buhari met with service chiefs at the presidential villa in Abuja on Monday.

Monguno, who served as national security adviser during the first term of Buhari but whose tenure has not been officially renewed, had recently chided in public Abba Kyari, the powerful chief of staff to the president.

He had blamed the “meddlesomeness” of Abba Kyari, for the failures in the war against the Boko Haram insurgency.

Monguno, in a letter addressed to the service chiefs, accused Kyari of giving orders to the service chiefs without the knowledge of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Appointed co-chair of the National Humanitarian Coordination Committee (NHCC), Monguno has always been part of such security meeting.

Those in attendance were the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt. – Gen Tukur Buratai; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar; the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu, also attended the meeting.

After meeting with Buhari, the service chiefs reportedly headed straight to the office of Kyari for another round of consultation.
