Nigerians should reject hate speech bill-Dino Melaye

Senator Dino Melaye has called on Nigerians to reject the hate speech bill currently before the Senate saying that it runs counter to the provisions of the Nigerian constitution.

The senator who recently lost his bid to come back to the Senate after a court-ordered rerun said although he had been a victim of social media slurs, regulating it as being considered in the Senate is counter-productive.


He made the observation at the maiden print edition of Kwararafa Reporters magazine, formerly an online medium, which was unveiled during the awards ceremony

Foremost among the recepients of awards is President Muhammadu Buhari who was honoured with an award for his leadership.


Others honoured  included Senator Dino Melaye himself, Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity and Zamfara State Governor.


The Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, and Maimuna Yaya Abubakar, CEO of Tozali TV, among others, bagged the Kwararafa awards.


The CEO of Kwararafa Reporters, Mr. Emmanuel Bello, explained in his welcome address that the awards ceremony was organised to recognise the contribution of the recipients to national development.


Earlier, Malam Garba Shehu discussed hate speech, the menace of fake news,their dangers and the need to check the self evident abuses.



The maiden print edition of the Kwararafa Reporters magazine, hitherto an online was also unveiled at the event that took place Sunday( December 8th) evening at NBC century house in Abuja.
