Ebonyi govt vows to impound automobiles without number plate

Ebonyi state
government has vowed to impound auto mobiles without plate number in the state,
saying they constitute security risk to the in the state.

The Special
Adviser to Governor David Umahi on Security and Public Utility South zone, Mr
Chika Nwangene, stated this when he led a task force team that commenced arrest
of automobiles operating in the state without number plates .

He disclosed
that about 50 percent of motorbike operators in the state are without number
plate even as majority of the people apprehended at the popular vanco junction
were security personnel.

He said:
“Recently I inaugurated 5 men task force to check on vehicles, motorcycles
and tricycles that do not have plate number because they have been using them
to perpetrate evil in the society.

“When a
bike man picks somebody and anything happens to the person you will not be able
to identify the bike or motorists because it has no plate number.

“That’s
why I quickly went on air to announce that
motorists without plate number should avail themselves of the two months
to do that.

“From
research my office made we discovered that up to 50 percent of Okada riders in
this state don’t have plate numbers and that is why I put this announcement and
gave them little time to do this because my task force will not spare them.

“I have
written through the commissioner of internal security to the security agencies advising
them to get their men acquires this plate numbers, we have apprehended so many
of them and they came to my office to plead.

“Anyone
caught will be made to pay a fine of 5000 to IGR account and also get the plate
number at 5000 naira”. Nwangene said.
