
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) Thursday elected Barrister Natasha Akpoti as the party candidate for the kogi state governorship election in November.
The election which took place in Lokoja witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) officials had 856 delegates from across the 21 local government councils of the state.
The election which was by indirect primary saw Barrister Natasha Akpoti having 90 per cent of the total votes casted by the delegates.
With her emergence, she will be contesting against the incumbent governor Yahaya Bello, who has also won the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The election which went peacefully saw the returning officer, Mr. Ben Ogbonna from the National Secretariat of the party deaclerd Natasha Akpoti as the duly elected governorship candidate of the party for the November 16 kogi governorship election.
In her acceptance speech, the standard bearer plegded to turn around the fortune of the state, thanking the delegates for finding her worthy to offer quality leadership in the state.
She promised to improve on education, health sectors and also create jobs for the unemployed youths and women in the state.
“This is a new era in Kogi state. When I contested for Senate for Kogi Central I was able to fight them without any money bag and godfather. Am going to defeat them again during the governorship election” she said
Akpoti added that if elected she will tackle poverty and hunger in the state as she assured the people that her era will be fruitfull for the state.
Earlier, the state chairman of the party, Alhaji Muktar Atimah said SDP is set to take over Lugard House in November, saying that the party had worked very well across all the 21 local government councils ahead of November general election.
He assured that the SDP candidate is capable of taking the state from its present precarious situation and severe poverty saying they will take over Lugard House come November election.
