Commotion as Rival Camps Clash During APC Unity Meeting in Kano
By Umar Ibrahim Umar
Rival factions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) clashed during a unity stakeholders’ meeting in Dawakin-Tofa/Tofa/Rimingado federal constituency of Kano State, disrupting efforts to foster cohesion within the ruling party.
The meeting, convened to unite party leaders and supporters in the area, descended into chaos following a heated exchange involving Hajiya Hasiya Aminu, a former NNPP women leader in Dawakin-Tofa who recently defected to the APC, and the member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe.
Eyewitnesses said Hajiya Hasiya openly criticised the lawmaker during the gathering, accusing him of failing to adequately cater for party members.
She reportedly urged Jobe to emulate the leadership style of Dawakin-Tofa Local Government Chairman, Anas Mukhtar Bello DanMaliki, and political figure Engr. Abba Ganduje.
Her comments were said to have angered the lawmaker, who attempted to respond before being restrained by organisers.
The situation escalated when the microphone was seized to prevent further confrontation, triggering unrest among youths believed to be loyal to Jobe.
The disruption reportedly turned violent, with the master of ceremony having his clothes torn and narrowly escaping harm, while several stakeholders fled the venue for safety.
Sources said the meeting marked the first attempt to bring together supporters of Hon. Jobe and Engr. Abba Ganduje since their rivalry during the 2023 general elections.
It was also the first major gathering involving politicians aligned with both the Kwankwasiyya and Gandujiyya political blocs under the APC platform.
Among those present were aspirants for the House of Representatives seat, including Barrister Munir Dahiru Maigari, former Rimingado Local Government Chairman, Dr. Janaidu Yakubu Tofa, and Engr. Abba Ganduje.
The Director-General of Media to the Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, also participated virtually.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about internal cohesion within the APC in Kano State, despite ongoing efforts to unite rival political blocs ahead of future elections.
