Kano Govt Says Emirate Dispute Near Resolution
The Kano State Government has assured residents that the lingering dispute over the emirate structure will be settled peacefully in the near future.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday in Kano, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, said the government had adopted clear strategies aimed at restoring calm and ensuring long-term stability across the state.
According to him, the administration is prioritising dialogue and broad consultations to prevent the issue from escalating or disrupting governance. He stressed that all steps being taken are rooted in respect for the law, traditional institutions, and the collective interests of Kano people.
Waiya also spoke on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s recent move to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a strategic decision that would positively impact the state’s development.
He explained that the governor’s alignment with the ruling party at the federal level is expected to strengthen cooperation and attract more support in key sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, and social services.
On the position of the deputy governor, who has not joined the governor in the new party, the commissioner said the matter was a personal choice.
He noted that the deputy governor is free to either remain within the new political framework or pursue a different political direction.
Waiya appealed to residents to remain calm and united, assuring them that the government remains focused on peace, inclusiveness, and good governance. He added that the administration would continue to place the welfare and interests of Kano citizens above all other considerations.
