
Kano Police Arrest Four, Seize Large Quantities of Suspected Drugs
The Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered significant quantities of substances believed to be cannabis sativa and other illicit drugs during intelligence-driven operations across the state.
According to a statement on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the operations were conducted under the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, emphasizing sustained intelligence-led patrols and visible policing.
The statement detailed that on January 25, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m., officers from the Fagge Police Division intercepted a tricycle at Triumph Roundabout. A search of the vehicle revealed 157 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, concealed inside two sacks. Two suspects, Amadu Ado and Salisu Lurwanu, both from Kulliya Village in Bunkure Local Government Area, were arrested in connection with the seizure.
In a separate raid on January 24, 2026, at around 5:25 p.m., the Command’s Rapid Response Team (RRT) targeted known black spots within the Kano metropolitan area. The operation led to the arrest of two additional suspects, Usman Hamisu, 22, and Auwal Abdullahi, 25. Recovered items included 40 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, 20 pieces of rubber solution, half a roll of suspected cannabis, and 10 small bottles of a substance locally called “Suck and Die.”
Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the officers for their professionalism and urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse, assuring the public of continued efforts to maintain safety and security across Kano State.
