FG to pilot livestock project in Plateau, recruit 1,000 forest guards
The Federal Government will pilot a livestock development project in Plateau State as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity and food security.
It will also recruit about 1,000 youths from the state as forest guards to help tackle recurring security challenges.
The plans were announced on Tuesday in Jos during a reception marking Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The announcement was conveyed by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Tinubu at the event.
Shettima said Plateau has a long history of contributing to Nigeria’s political and social development, noting that the state has played a key role in shaping national leadership. He urged Nigerians to focus on unity and shared national goals rather than divisions.
According to him, Mutfwang’s move to the APC is a step toward building a more united and progressive Plateau State.
APC National Chairman, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, formally welcomed Mutfwang into the party and presented him with the APC flag. He said the party remained committed to justice, peace and development in Plateau State.
Yilwatda expressed confidence that the APC would record major victories in Plateau during the 2027 general elections, including the presidential and governorship polls. He also encouraged Nigerians to participate in the ongoing APC membership registration exercise.
Speaking at the event, Mutfwang said he was convinced that the people of Plateau State would support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
He acknowledged the economic difficulties facing the country but said his engagements with the president had shown a clear commitment to repositioning Nigeria for prosperity, unity and progress.
“The toughest decisions have already been taken, and we are beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel,” Mutfwang said, calling on Nigerians to remain patient and work together to keep the country on its current course.
He urged political leaders and citizens to put national interest above personal ambition and support efforts aimed at stabilising and developing the country.
