It’s Official: Kano Governor Joins APC

The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), triggering a major political shift in the state.

The governor announced his move on Monday at the Coronation Hall of the Kano Government House, describing the decision as one taken in the overall interest of Kano people.

Governor Yusuf said his alignment with the APC was driven by the need to foster unity, political stability and fast-track development across the state, stressing that his central focus remains good governance and the delivery of democratic dividends.

The defection ceremony drew prominent political heavyweights, including former APC National Chairman and ex-Kano Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin and Senator Kawu Sumaila.

Also present were members of the Kano State Executive Council, APC stakeholders and top government officials, underscoring the significance of the political realignment.

The move is expected to reshape Kano’s political landscape and has already sparked intense reactions across party lines.
