Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party, has declared January 23rd as “World Betrayal Day”. He mentioned this while talking to party members in Kano following the formal resignation of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the party.

He said the decision came after reading social media comments, and one of them that caught his attention is the one that suggested January 23rd should be crowned “World Betrayal Day”.

“As I scrolled through the social media comments, most of them were insulting, but the one that caught my attention is the one that suggested that January 23rd be crowned World Betrayal Day,” he said.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf came to power in the year 2023 through the major pull of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. The chairman, through his Kwankwasiyya movement, pulled votes for him as Kano people are so much in love with the Kwankwasiyya movement.

Until January 23rd, 2026, Governor Yusuf wore the white kaptan and red cap to signify his loyalty to the Kwankwasiyya movement, but suddenly changed his mind and moved to the APC, leaving everyone surprised.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf remains grateful for the platform that NNPP provided him with. The statement further revealed that the governor attributed his decision to the persistent internal disputes and legal challenges that have continued to unsettle the party at both state and national levels.
