Kano Police Command Arrests Three Over Murder of Housewife, Six Children

The Kano State Police command has arrested three principal suspects in connection with the killing of a house wife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranci quarters of Kano metropolis.

According to a statement by the police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the arrests followed an intelligence led operation carried out on the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The statement said the suspects were apprehended under the supervision of the Commissioner Of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori during a sting operation that lasted between 10:00pm yesterday and 4:00am today. Those arrested were identified as 23 year old, Umar Auwalu of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters, 40 year old Isyaku Yakubu also known as Chebe of Sagagi Quaters and 21 year old Yakubu Abdulaziz, also known as Wawo of Sabon Gida Sharada Quaters.

Police said preliminary investigation revealed that Umar Auwalu who was described as the leader of the group and a nephew to the deceased woman, confessed to his involvement in the crime. He also allegedly admitted that the syndicate had been involved in other violent attacks in the state.

Items recovered from the suspects included blood stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a cutlass, a club, some cash and other weapons believe to have been used during the attack.

The police command said investigation into the case was ongoing, adding that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
