Farmers Uncover Terrorist-Planted Explosives in Niger Communities

Farmers have uncovered three explosive devices suspected to be bombs planted by terrorists during their daily routine.

The explosive devices were discovered by the farmers on Tuesday in Ganaru community in Zugurma district of Mashegu local government area in Niger State.

A community source from the area said the farmers were on their way to the farm for their farming activities when they discovered the explosive devices planted by the roadside and immediately raised the alarm.

The chairman of Mashegu local government, Jibrin Egade, who confirmed the latest development, told our reporter that the area has been protected from the public to avoid an explosion that could lead to casualties.

Egade, who expressed shock over the discovery of such dangerous explosives in the community where there are no security challenges, said the entire community was alarmed by the discovery.

He disclosed that he had informed the security agencies about the matter for immediate action.

When contacted, the Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Elleman, confirmed the development, saying that the command had deployed bomb experts to the scene to ascertain and possibly detonate the explosive, which he said was one, not three, as claimed by the villagers.

He urged the people to go about their legitimate businesses without fear of intimidation, adding that experts had been deployed to ensure the professional evacuation of the explosive device.

The development comes barely two days after 42 persons were gruesomely killed by terrorists in Borgu local government area of Niger State.
