President Donald Trump delivered a stark warning on Sunday to Venezuela’s newly installed leader, signaling potentially harsher repercussions than those faced by Nicolás Maduro if she resists Washington’s demands in the wake of the U.S.-led operation that resulted in Maduro’s capture, Fox News has reported.
In an interview with The Atlantic, VERITY NEWS learnt that Trump said Delcy Rodríguez would “pay a very big price, probably bigger than Maduro” should she fail to “do what’s right,” asserting that his administration would not tolerate what he characterized as her defiance against the U.S. intervention.
Trump defended the strategy, arguing that rebuilding Venezuela , or what he referred to as regime change, would be preferable to the existing situation. “Can’t get any worse,” he said.
According to The Atlantic, Trump framed his foreign policy in the region as a reinterpretation of the Monroe Doctrine, a 19th‑century policy aimed at limiting European influence in the Western Hemisphere, dubbing his version the “Donroe Doctrine.”
Trump also suggested that Venezuela might not be the last nation to encounter intensified U.S. pressure, hinting at the possibility of further interventions beyond Latin America.
