One of the victims of the recent terrorist attack in Kasuwar Daji, Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State, Mohammed Suleiman, has described the devastating impact of the raid on his community.
Over 40 people were reportedly killed, while many others, including women, children, and the elderly, were abducted during coordinated attacks involving machetes, gunfire, and arson on Saturday.
In a video posted online by Katsina-based security expert Malam Bakatsine, Suleiman explained how the attackers destroyed everything his family and neighbours had worked for.
He said, “We have been left with nothing after the attack. Our farms produce such as rice, maize, Guinea corn, sugar cane and everything we harvested has been burnt. What do Gov’t want us to do now, let Gov’t provide a way forward for us. Who do we run to?”
He then spoke about the immediate danger faced during the attack and the horror he witnessed.
Suleiman said, “I’m only left with just a pair of my farm clothes that I was wearing when they attacked us, no footwear. They gathered our children, elderly men and women and killed several of them.”
The survivor also detailed the plight of the children in the community, many of whom are now without food.
“Even a single piece of food the children left behind will eat now we are not left with,” he told reporters.
Suleiman further described the complete loss of resources that sustained the village.
He said, “They burnt out the food store and everything we have a vested interest in this year.”
According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers came from the Kainji Lake National Park forest area, a known hideout for bandits.
The raid began in the late afternoon and continued into the night, leaving homes, markets, and food stores in flames, with many residents forced to flee.
Suleiman and other survivors continue to appeal for urgent government intervention, calling for protection and support as fear and trauma grip Kasuwar Daji.
