Nnamdi Kanu found guilty of terrorism charges

Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been convicted for alleged terrorism by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Kanu, who challenged Justice Omotosho during the trial, was taken out of the court by security operatives, before the verdict was delivered.

Kanu was being tried on a seven-count charge bordering on terrorism and incitement to commit same.
Justice Omotosho’s conviction was however made based on the first of seven counts slammed on the IPOB Leader.

He is still on the other charges, all of which also carry a maximum of death sentence. Justice Omotosho is expected to announce Nnamdi Kanu’s sentence later.

Justice Omotosho had earlier accused Kanu of unruly behavior and disrespect for the court, even as the IPOB leader tried to disrupt proceedings.

Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021, following his controversial interception and return to Nigeria from Kenya in controversial circumstances.

Kanu is expected to challenge Omotosho’s ruling at the appellate court.
