Hon Abdullahi Umar, a frontline party chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and convener of the ADC National Alliance for Good Governance, has strongly condemned the recent blacklisting of Nigeria by the United States under President Donald Trump’s administration. Speaking to newsmen in Kano yesterday, Hon Umar described the development as a national embarrassment and a stark reflection of failed leadership by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government.
According to Hon Umar, the blacklisting exposes the APC’s inability to protect Nigerian interests and safeguard the welfare of all citizens, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation. He emphasized that this failure signals a lack of purposeful leadership and accountability, which has fostered feelings of vulnerability and alienation in certain parts of the country. “This is not just a diplomatic setback, but a clear sign that the current administration lacks both the capacity and political will to manage Nigeria’s internal and external challenges effectively,” he stated.
Hon Abdullahi Umar highlighted that under ADC’s vision, Nigeria’s governance would be fundamentally different. The ADC is committed to inclusive leadership, rooted in transparency, justice, and equitable development across all regions. “We will prioritize national unity by addressing security lapses, strengthening economic policies, and fostering social cohesion to rebuild confidence both at home and in the international community,” he assured.
The ADC’s platform stresses the need for a government that genuinely serves the interests of all Nigerians, ensuring protection, equal opportunity, and dignity. Hon Umar called on Nigerians to reject the APC’s failed approach and rally behind the ADC’s agenda for genuine reform, good governance, and sustainable progress. “The time to restore Nigeria’s dignity and stability is now, and ADC stands ready to lead this transformation,” he concluded.
