Chief of Naval Staff Swimming Championship to kick off in Delta State

The Nigeria Aquatics Federation, in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, is gearing up to host the 12th edition of the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) National Swimming Championship. The event is scheduled to take place from July 15th to 19th, 2025, in Asaba, Delta State.

The championship aims to identify, nurture, and prepare elite athletes to represent Nigeria at key international events, including the Africa Youth Games and the World Aquatics Junior Championships.

According to Mrs. Chinoye Daphey, President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation during a press conference, “This championship is a cornerstone of the Federation’s strategic plan to identify, nurture, and prepare elite athletes who will represent Nigeria at key international events.”

The event, she said, will feature participants from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, including athletes from states, clubs, military, paramilitary forces, and academic institutions.

“The technical committee and national scouts will be on hand to evaluate performances and select outstanding swimmers for further training and preparation at the national camp for international competition”.

Mrs. Daphey expressed gratitude to the Chief of Naval Staff and the Nigeria Navy for their steadfast commitment to developing aquatics sports in Nigeria. “This partnership reflects a renewed national dedication to elevating swimming and related disciplines to international excellence,” she said.

The Delta State Government will leverage its proven track record of successfully hosting major sporting events like the National Sports Festival and National Youth Games.

“With a proven track record of successfully hosting major sporting events, we are confident that Delta State will provide a world-class experience for all participants,” Mrs. Daphey added.

The championship promises cash rewards and scholarships for outstanding athletes, particularly those above 18 who will represent Nigeria internationally. “It’s an opportunity for employment for young athletes who might get scholarships and may even get drafted into any of the participating agencies and organizations,” Mrs. Daphey noted.

The event will feature both junior and senior level competitions, providing a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents and compete against their peers.

The Nigeria Aquatics Federation extends an open invitation to families, coaches, sports lovers, and stakeholders to attend and support this historic championship.
